Portfolio Updated…long time overdue

It seems like each December I find myself updating my portfolio and refreshing the site’s design. I need to stop only doing it once a year, that is horrible. I guess being so busy that you don’t have time to update your own portfolio is a good thing? Like a contractor whose house is constantly in a state of disrepair.

Regardless of whether it was busyness or just laziness, I’ve added a lot of projects that have kept me busy over the last year. I did leave some out due to time but the pieces I consider a good representation of how I spent 2011 are here. Now, if I can manage to update this blog more than twice a year I would be golden.

Adding Custom WordPress Quicktags

When I draft an article I usually write directly in the WordPress editor. Occasionally I’ll compose in another application like Pages or Google Docs. But most the time I just dive right into the editor. As a hand coder, I’m more of a fan of the HTML editor. Most the time I just code what I want.

As I was working on an article the other day, I thought it would be pretty sweet to have a few extra Quicktags up in the editor bar. I remember back in the days of WordPress 1.5 and hacking the quicktags.js file. I shudder at the very thought of doing that now. Hacking a core file is not an option and I don’t want to install a plugin. Installing a plugin would mean I would have to install it on every site I do and set it up new each time.

So I set out to see if I could find some information on how to add my own Quicktags using a js file in my theme and my functions.php page. Continue

New Design for FadedPictures.com

It’s been a while since I’ve given any attention to my poor lil’ site here at FadedPictures.com. For many months (maybe longer) the site has been down. Admittedly, I’ve been too busy working on other sites and projects. A couple months back I finally decided to scrap what was here, design, CMS, everything, and just start over again. You can check out the geeky details. Continue
